Show of support: ‘Nation supports anti-terror plan’

Ashrafi appealed to the nation to condemn terrorism and violence in the name of religion.

LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Tahir Ashrafi on Friday said the prime minister’s 20-point agenda for an anti-terrorism plan was a voice of the nation. Addressing a press conference after leading Friday prayers, Ashrafi said the PUC was observing a peace day to remember the young victims of the attack at a school in Peshawar on December 16. He said leaders of 73,000 mosques had condemned the killing. He said more than 2,000 ulemas would present a new strategy against terrorism and sectarianism at a gathering at Alhamra Hall on December 30. He appealed to the nation to condemn terrorism and violence in the name of religion. He said a consensus between political and armed forces the need of the hour. He hoped that the PM’s 20-point agenda would be implemented in a real sense.
