Euro-Asia: Turkish entities show interest in Dasu project

WAPDA team visits Ankara, briefs investors about power plant.

ISLAMABAD: A technical team of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) during its two-day visit to Turkey held meetings with key private-sector construction companies.

During the discussions, Wapda representatives gave technical details of the forthcoming 4,320-megawatt Dasu hydropower project.

The visit was part of a series of interactions with potential hydroelectric power plant construction companies, which had shown keen interest in participating in the pre-qualification and subsequent bidding for the mega project, said a message received here on Tuesday from the Pakistan Embassy in Ankara.

In the meetings, Pakistan Ambassador Haroon Shaukat appreciated the interest shown by Turkish companies in the project.

He said the hydroelectric power project provided a window to Turkish companies to step up investment in the energy sector, which was offering immense opportunities.

He stressed that Turkish companies might also look into the opportunities of working with Pakistani counterparts.

The Turkish construction companies including Nurol, Limak, Mapa, Ozkar, Ozaltin and others were unanimous in their view that Pakistan was a promising destination for them. A preparatory meeting for the project would be held in January next year, followed by pre-qualification and submission of bids. The World Bank has arranged substantial financing for the phased construction of the dam and power plant.
