Three TTP-Swat militants arrested in Karachi

Militants are said to be complicit in a deadly attack on Karachi police inspector Shafiq Tanoli this year in April

KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on Monday claimed to have apprehended three members of the Swat chapter of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The arrested militants are said to be involved in various cases of terrorism in Karachi, including an attack on anti-terror police inspector Shafiq Tanoli.

The arrests were made during a targeted raid conducted on a tip-off near Labour Square in Karachi’s SITE area.

The militants  were identified as Noor Rasheed, Nadeem and Abid.

Further, three hand grenades, a Kalashnikov and two pistols were also recovered from their possession, and the suspects have been shifted to undisclosed location for further questionings.

CID in-charge Mazhar Mashwani said the militants were involved in a deadly attack on anti-terror police inspector Shafiq Tanoli, who was killed in a deadly bombing near his residence in Old Sabzi Mandi area in April this year. Tanoli was previously targeted death seven times.

The officer said that besides their involvement in Tanoli’s attack, during initial investigations, they also revealed to have involvement in three cases of sectarian-based targeted killings. Further investigation is under way.
