National Action Plan: Nisar to reveal course of action

Major political parties to submit their proposals

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar is expected to reveal significant details about the National Action Plan on how the military will hunt down the financiers, abettors, facilitators and aides of militants, a senior official of the interior ministry said on Saturday.

The interior minister will update the nation about the steps being taken to hunt militants, as well as the possible expansion of the military operation in the country, he added.

Nisar will also provide details of recommendations given by Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a meeting held at the military headquarters on Friday, the official added.

All major political parties will most likely submit their input and recommendations on the National Action Plan to the government by Sunday (today), after which the National Action Plan Committee will discuss the recommendations, the senior officer of the interior ministry said.

To Sheikh Rashid’s displeasure

Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has expressed anger and displeasure over his exclusion from the meeting of National Action Plan Committee by the government.

“My party is part of the National Assembly, but they [the government] did not include my name in the committee,” he told The Express Tribune.

“I, as a member of the National Assembly, want to give input to this committee,” Rashid added.

He said that Ijazul Haq of the Pakistan Muslim League-Zia – who only has one seat in Parliament – has been made part of the NAPC.

“I will lodge protest with the speaker of the NA in the upcoming session,” he said. “The NAPC is a national committee. I am ready to give my input if someone invites me.”
