Many celebrities took to digital platforms to voice their opinions regarding the attack and to express solidarity with the families of those who were killed.
The hashtag #PeshawarAttack went viral on Twitter and people across the world blacked out their Facebook timelines to mourn the loss of the children who were brutally murdered.
Across the border, Indians showed their support and tweeted out heartfelt messages to Pakistanis with the hashtag #IndiaWithPakistan.
Various Bollywood celebrities also showed their shock and horror at the attack and expressed their concern.
On Thursday, leading Indian newspaper The Hindustan Times reported that veteran actor Anupam Kher had penned an open letter to the terrorists involved in the attack.
The letter is as follows:
Every time you commit a mindless act of terrorism, I die a little. Truth be told, I have been dying quite often of late; little by little.
I have died when bombs go off in civilian areas, when bystanders are held hostage, when airlines are hijacked, when defenceless people are killed and when the unarmed are sold as slaves.
But today, when you butchered over 130 children in cold blood in a school in Peshawar, I fear there is nothing left in me. I don’t know what your objective was, but you have certainly reduced me to a dead man walking.
What tenet of religiosity can you quote to justify such slaughtering of children? What twisted perception of which faith can you claim to adhere to? Does it require bravery to shoot barefaced children, innocents who do not understand the concept of conflict, much less the evil face of terrorism? Killing children cannot be an act of faith in any religion. According to early reports, you are the same monsters who tried to kill Malala Yousafzai on October 9, 2012. You did not kill her; her bravery won her the Noble Prize earlier this month. Words cannot adequately despise the monstrosity which you have committed. True there have been greater pogroms in history such as Lidice, Dachau, the purges of Stalin, the Cultural Revolution of Mao, and the killing fields of Cambodia. But these were political movements or results of conflict. What you have done today is something not reflected in history; the slaughter of innocents.
I cannot ascribe a category to which you could possibly belong. Even animals kill for a reason; out of fear or hunger. But you let lose bullets out of senselessness. Truly you are beyond evil. Pictures of war and conflict often move me. Today it was different. I saw a picture of a father who had tied the shoelace of his son before he sent him to the ill-fated school. "I have the shoe, but I have no son…’ he lamented. I was not moved. I broke down. Your dastardly act today will have united parents everywhere and earned you their curses. Time will prove that their curses will not have been in vain.

@Jai What sick twisted mind you carry. Are you the Indian version of the Taliban? Shame on you for trying to promote your screwed up agenda at a time when the whole world is mourning the loss of these innocent children.
@Mr. Kher~~~~~Thanks for your kind words ! The entire Pakistani nation is in a state of shock and mourning on this barbaric act .We have lost a generation !!
Very well written, sir. It would be wrong even calling them merciless 'animals' because even animals have a reason for doing something so bizarre. Looking at the pictures showing the lifeless bodies of these innocent children lying over each other like a pile of trash literally made me cry. My faith in humanity has died once and for all. Every time I step out of the house, I prepare myself for the worst. Life is unpredictable and unforgiving. Period.
@Burki: I'd reject faith in God even if it be such a test. A test that considers faith in God more important than the life of a child discredits that faith to me. Sati is a banned practice in India but Fyi, it was scripturally a voluntary act by an adult unlike someone putting a knife over a child's neck. An individual having the right to end their lives is part of living free. Many countries with the best freedoms allow euthanasia too.
" I Accuse"
I remember a book "The Wind Cannot Read", I read long ago, in which was this couplet.
"Though on the sign it is written, Do not pluck these blossoms", It is useless against the wind, Which cannot read".
The murderers could not read the sign which warned not to pluck the blossoms. Now the Gulistan has been deprived of smiling faces of the innocent. The sun has set on all of us. It is dark. The smile of the innocent child going to school has become a ghost, It will haunt Peshawar and Pakistan for ever.
But I accuse the selfish, self seeking, corrupt leaders of Pakistan of having failed in their duty. They have once again robbed us of our future while preserving their children, their money earned by corrupt practices, and their own future." I accuse them for having facilitated these murders by being negligent, diverting their resources to their advantage, and to be indifferent to the common people of Pakistan.
I accuse them of having robbed my happiness for the rest of my life.
"Cry for my beloved country and my beloved children- the blossoms our nation"
People like you keep the humanity going
i cannot even begin to express the sorrow every Indian feels today towards all those innocent lives lost for no fault of theirs. May their souls rest in peace.
Let us not get any religion into picture here because those who did this belonged to just one religion-- terrorism!!
Let us assure you that every Indian feels as bereaved as every one of you. Let us end this divide and fight against those who aim to create terror in the name of any religion.. We are all with you in these dark times
Salute!
Thank you Anupam sahib thank you India thank you people on other side of the border. We are fighting a common enemy thank you for bearing with us.We believe time has come now to bring to justice all those who killed humanity without discrimination.
Very well written and beautifully worded. Mr. Kher thank you for sharing our loss. You had tears roll my eyes. I as a Pakistani salute you as you have touched our hearts. Thank you once again and God Bless.
@ Mr Kher Very moving sir. Thankyou for your words of solidarity in wake of this gut wrenching incident. We as Pakistanis have always and will always show resilience in face of such acts of terror, no matter how gruesome. Though heartbroken at the moment, we will fight back! Once again my gratitude and respects!
Respect to you Sir and India who stood by Pakistan !!
Thank you Kher Sahib. Your heart is made of gold. Nobody in Pakistan has written such beautiful and powerful words because our best writers have been writing in favour of these murderers. Since yesterday, they are shedding crocodiles tears but soon they will show their true colours and someone might write against you. Please forgive us if it happens.
@Jai: twisting the facts .. aren't we? He was asked to offer that sacrifice to as a sign of his obedience to the Almighty, he didn't actually sacrificed his son. Ironically it's the Dharmic teachinig which prescribe the custom of Sati for widows to go and burn themselves along with their deceased husbands .. .some twisted barbaric teachings!
Have we forgotten the massacre of school children at Beslan in 2004? Then as now, armed Islamist militants were involved. 186 children were killed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslanschoolhostage_crisis
Actually Mr Kher, killing children is actually an act of faith in Abrahamic religion. Which is why all Abrahamic religions relate the story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his first born as an act of faith. These are the sick twisted mind sets Dharmic religions have been contending with.
@Naasir: Thank you for stating the tormented thoughts of millions. I a, trying to put my grief on paper ever since I heard the news, unfortunately or fortunately, I have no words to describe the barbaric act of some, nor my mind have the strength to write my grief. God bless the writer and peace to loved ones. Thank you.
Anupam Sahab, your words truly resonate with our own broken hearts and weeping eyes across the border here in Pakistan. It's heartening to see we all stand together in this moment of great human tragedy. Just as a group of sub-human barbarians stooped to unthinkable level of cruelty, it's us humans who are putting aside our differences to stand together and provide a comforting shoulder to each other. Humanity is not lost after all.
Well said sir. We Indians condemn this attack on children. No political points to be scored. No nonsense chat. These children are shaheeds. Rab rakha. Sat Sri akal
Thank you Sir,
Heart Touching Lines!! Those who attacked children have proved that they do not have hearts, hence from now onwards they should not be treated as Human and i think even not as animal.
Thank you for that........coming from a known personality means a lot.
#1 ENEMY OF ISLAM -The TALIBAN
Well said Mr. Kher. Justice will prevail in the end.
Salute!
