Shot dead: Cop, shop owner gunned down

Deceased policeman was posted to the Specialised Investigation Team in District West

KARACHI: A policeman and a shop owner were killed in the city on Monday.

Police constable Rashid Iqbal was shot dead near the Z-2 bus stop in Farid Colony, Orangi Town within the limits of the Mominabad police station. The deceased was posted to the Specialised Investigation Team, District West. Police officials said that two men on a motorcycle shot and killed Iqbal as he left home for work. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot.

The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and was handed over to the family for burial. No case was registered till the filing of this report.



In an unrelated incident, 30-year-old Shahzad, was killed near Sector 11-D within the limits of the New Karachi police station. Police officials said that the deceased used to live in the same area and was shot near his residence on the way to his meat shop. The police claimed that three men on two motorcycles tried to mug him.  They shot him when he offered resistance.

The culprits managed to escape before the police reached the scene of crime. He was shot once in the chest and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A case was registered against unidentified persons.
