PESHAWAR:

Around 610 displaced families from North Waziristan received items essential for hygiene in Bannu.

The goods were distributed by the Urban Rural Development Organisation (URDO) in collaboration with the Australian High Commission.

“These families are living in camps without proper toilets and other facilities. As a result, they are exposed to various diseases,” said URDO CEO Zaheer Khattak. Most of the displaced people are either living at camps or in the houses of relatives in Bannu and Karak. He added besides Bannu and Karak, the organisation is active in the other IDP camps.

Khattak added the purpose of the activity was to facilitate displaced families and help overcome their health and hygiene problems.

He added the hygiene kits distributed by the URDO team consisted of anti-lice shampoos, sanitary pads, antiseptics, towels, washing soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bath soap, plastic buckets, jerry cans, cooking pans, cooking pots, kettle, water coolers and jugs with glasses.

The displaced people pointed out their health issues such as allergies, infections and other skin-related diseases.

They emphasised on the need for more health initiatives to protect their children and families from serious illnesses.
