Rescue 1122 officials said Muhammad Yaqoob, a resident of Chunta, his wife Qadiran Bibi and nephew Muneer Ahmad were going on a motorbike when it skidded and fell into the canal near Kachi Kothi bridge.
They said Shajar Abbas saw the family fall and dived in to rescue them. They said when he did not emerge, some people jumped into the water and rescued Yaqoob and Ahmad.
They said Bibi and Abbas were still missing.
