NOWSHERA:

Six bullet-riddled bodies were found at the confluence of River Indus and River Kabul in Nizampur area of Nowshera district on Saturday.

Nizampur police official Saleem Khan told The Express Tribune that a fisherman informed them at noon that he had spotted some bodies on the junction of the two rivers. Police rushed to the scene and shifted the corpses to the police station for identification.

According to the official, no one has come forward to claim the bodies. “No CNICs or any other type of identification cards were found with the bodies,” he said. “However, all six men seem to be between 28 and 34 years old.”

The bodies do not bear any torture marks, Khan added.

Initial investigation revealed that all six men were gunned down in an undisclosed location and their bodies were dumped into River Kabul.

According to Khan, the bodies were taken to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Nowshera for autopsy and subsequently placed in a morgue. “If no one comes by Sunday morning, we will perform the last rites and bury the deceased,” he added.

A case has been registered and further investigation is under way, the official said.
