The Sindh High Court on Friday dismissed the bail application of a former district and sessions judge from Mithi who is facing trial in a honour killing case.
A division bench, comprising Justices Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, announced the judgment, which was earlier reserved after hearing the arguments from the prosecutiong and the defence at length.
Former district and sessions judge Sikandar Ali Lashari had approached the court for bail in connection with the murder of another judge’s son.
The police had booked and arrested Lashari for allegedly ordering the murder of Aqib Shahani, the 20-year-old son of Jacobabad district and sessions judge Khalid Hussain Shahani, in Hyderabad on February 19. The victim’s family claimed that Lashari had their son killed for having a relationship with his daughter.
Lawyer ZK Jatoi pleaded for the release of Lashari, who is currently in prison facing a murder trial before an anti-terrorism court in Hyderabad. He said that during the investigation, the police had claimed to have found the weapon used in the crime on the information of the applicant, which was false. He maintained that his client had played no part in the alleged offence and pleaded to grant post-arrest bail, arguing that the case still needed further inquiry.
Earlier, the SHC had reserved its verdict on the bail plea after hearing the arguments from the provincial prosecutor general and the lawyers representing Lashari and the victim’s family.
