Many lawmakers and ministers in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state thought that Industry Minister Kailash Vijayavarghiya had won the award for his “humanitarian work.”
In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, ministers from the BJP congratulated Vijayavarghiya warmly, while members of the Opposition alleged that the BJP had swung the awards for Vijayavarghiya.
Vijayavarghiya was not embarrassed by being mistaken for the Nobel laureate. He said that the confusion was caused by the fact that he was more well-known in the state than Satyarthi.

well if Indian media has done his job on the social worker to promote him instead of stressing on negative issues and provocative programs all the time may be people could have known him better
And therein lies the problem with South Asia.. Good for nothing ministers and bureacrats get accolades while people serving the population are nobodies.
This shows how much Malala was the reason he got the prize... since they were giving malala a nobel, they had to find some indian who has done something for children as well. in his own country, no one knew him... and seemingly still dont!
This actually is tragically hilariousl! To ask how could this be is futile!
@Foaad: Not just idiots as you say. This is how much they know and care for the noble work of the Nobel Peace Prize winner and children’s rights crusader Kailash Satyarthi.
Idiots... they could've congratulated Kailash Kher, who is even more popular.
