LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) on Friday to chalk out a security plan in view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) call for shutting down Lahore on December 15.

A full bench, headed by Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan, heard a petition filed by a traders’ leader requesting the court to ensure security for citizens on December 15. The court said it was regrettable that the government had failed to establish its writ.

It ordered police to maintain order in the city. CCPO Amin Wains told the court police was developing a security plan in consultation with all representatives of traders. He said police would also consult the petitioner for the purpose.

The court directed the officer to take input from traders, political workers and citizens before finalising the plan.

The courts should also listen to the millions who have participated in these protests.
