FAISALABAD: Over 250 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists, including PTI Punjab General Secretary Dr Yasmeen Rashid have been booked on charges of spreading terror, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic, attacking police personnel, ransacking, disrupting the peace and other serious charges.

The case has been registered by Sargodha Road police under sections 7-ATA, 353, 186, 311, 114, 119, 147, 148, 149, 440 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Sub Inspector (SI) Khawaja Imran Mannan.

“They burnt tyres, hurled threats through loudspeakers and forcibly closed down shops,” the SI stated in his complaint.

This is the fourth case registered against the PTI activists and leaders in the row pertaining to the December 8, 2014 protest and strike in Faisalabad.

Earlier, three separate criminal cases citing various offences under the PPC as well as the Anti Terrorism Act have been registered in Factory Area, Samanabad, D-Type Colony police stations, all of which fall within the constituency of State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali and former Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

In a case registered at Samanabad police station on Sanaullah’s complaint, PTI chairman Imran Khan, PTI Vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Dr Arif Alvi and Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad have been nominated along with 14 other local PTI leaders, besides 500 others.

Sanaullah, in his complaint, contended that “PTI had given a call for strike for creating anarchy, political turmoil, and instability with the use of riots and violence.”

“They also provoked their workers to attack my house,” Sanaullah alleged in his complaint.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered on the complaint of Attaullah Khan, elder brother of the deceased Haq Nawaz, against Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, former Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and more than 300 other PML-N leaders, workers and activists.

Another December 8 riot suspect arrested

The police on Friday arrested another suspect believed to be involved in the killing of PTI activist Haq Nawaz on December 8, 2014, near Novelty Bridge in Faisalabad.

So far, the police have arrested 10 suspects using video footage. The suspects have been moved to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Sanaullah, in his press conference on December 9, 2014 along, with other PML-N leaders had denied his involvement in the killing of PTI worker.

He had claimed that Nawaz was killed by the PTI or some affiliated organisation for disrupting the law and order situation and create chaos.

All these culprits get booked on various charges but one never hears of any action taken - is it that the authorities are impotent or corrupt?
