While addressing a press conference in Peshawar after visiting Awami National Party leader Bashir Bilour, PM Nawaz Sharif said there will be a further reduction in petroleum prices, adding that economic indicators were showing signs of improvement.
“Our only mission is not to end load shedding but also reduce the tariff," he said, adding that his government's priority is to make electricity production cheaper.
He said coal-based power plants have already been initiated with the help of Chinese companies. "Despite a lack of resources, the government is striving to provide relief to the people."
The premier argued that the reduction in power would decrease inflation in the country, while also emphasising that the power crisis would not end overnight.
“I never gave a timeline, either before or after elections to end the power crisis,” he said. “But we are determined to end the crisis in our current tenure," he added.
When asked about the Karachi shutdown by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Nawaz said he shouldn't be asked about protests but rather the ongoing development projects in the country.

Now entire Pakistan says: Ro Imran Ro
Go Nawaz Go
Excellent job Imran Khan you are doing well because thus Nawaz Sharif is cerebrating about the nation after becoming PM since June 2013 and the your sit-ins and processions in the different cities of Pakistan against Nawaz Sharif on the basis of "Go Nawaz Go" slogan and Nawaz Sharif is trying his best and utmost to regain the his lost place in the people's hearts by reducing oil and electricity prices gradually and secondly the credit also goes to international oil market where oil prices are reducing and electricity's prices reduced because in Pakistan 60% electricity is generated with fuel.....
@ Shuaib The problem is that you can post as many comments from a single PC with different names but you can recommend a comment only once, obviously a big reason to worry for PMLN trolls.
go imran go
It seems, Tribune has blocked the recommend button so no one can see how many likes PMLN is getting!!!
Cheap thinking..Cheap tactics. One can easily understand the thinking of N League..They don't know about economy, development, Research, Infrastructure, Power shortage etc.NS and his illiterate allies rely on building bridges, roads to show something so that they could present something for elections..
@just_someone: Truth HURTS! Take it easy! Besides, unlike PTI Facebook junkies, who are mostly high school drop-outs, and are only skilled to be trolls, PML(N) supporters have real day-jobs, have a life away from Internet, and therefore, are not-for-sale!
LOL, it seems the govt is paying lots of people to post pro-NS and pro PML-N messages... no amount of money will save you NS!
It is a Joke to have a reduction of only Rs.2.32 per unit. What about the GST, Income Tax, Electricity Duty that is charged in addition, these additional cost makes up for all the high difference in cost. India, Bangladesh, SriLanka Electricity Charges per unit is much lower as compared to what charged in Pakistan, besided the taxes charged on the Electricity bills by these countries is even far lowest as compared to what charged by the Pak Govt.
@Bushra Gull: Non-sense, your argument! IK shutdown (aka anarchy) has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this price reduction; it is 100% a function of world oil prices -- which have been tumbling hard over the last few weeks -- like from $109/brrl to current $59/brrl. So, PTI kids should think before giving credit to IK's petulance for everything good that this govt does.
Thanks a lot PM sahab. Can you kindly complete the Lyari Expressway please? We stopped expecting from PPP and MQM too.
Furthermore, everyone says it's IK's opposition making it happen so all credit to him. Here's a more credible angle: NS reduces prices, people start to like him, IK loses popularity for his repeated brouhaha.
Shame on you. Speak truth,do not befool people.Reduction in electricity tariff and POL prices is due to reduction in world petroleum price and political pressure exerted by IK and not because of improved economic indicators.
Too little in face of huge fall in oil prices in international markets.
To say thank you IK or NS for cutting the fuel price iskidding yourselves... NS has shown nothing in 3 stints as PM that he can do nationbuilding or capacity to run the country. IK, i am afraid hs become so obssessed with the power that it is clear he is going to go to any length and to expect the man will have anything to offer - you just have to look at the intellectual capacity of those surrounding him.
When NS announced reduction Rs.2.32 per unite electricity tariff. it was about 1.00 pm and after that national grid was collapsed and whole country gone in dark till 7.00 pm.I think this is great step by govt but dont know who is responsible for national grid collapse?
only 2 rupees? must be a joke, not a funny one.
oil prices worldwide has gone down at least 40% in last three months, couple of Rupee reduction is a poor joke.
Million thanks to Imran Khan. Hopefully we will see more reduction in prices at the Lahore Shutdown!
Fuel prices are cheap ... world economy is growing and Imran khan is wasting Govt. time on populist measures. If now military takeover happens tauts will military has done the turnaround.
Thank you Mian Sb....... People are with you and will vote again in 2018
It was the same PM who increased the tariff before, now due to immense pressure of PTI, he is trying to please the masses by temporary reductions in tariffs, as soon as the pressure will release he will increase it again, its history.......Long Live Imran Khan, the only Hope, the only Beacon of light.
Feeling pity for PTI trolls. If his dharna could do then he should one for Kashmir.. What a logic by PTI supporters.
LOL...Why are people thanking the govt? Have you not seen what is happening with global oil prices? This is what we expect the govt to do. We don’t need to thank them, it’s their JOB!!
ET could you elaborate that it is a blanket decease on all tariffs or it is for domestic users only?. Your news is like half cooked.
@AA: Agreed that the reduction in tariff's etc is directly connected to reduction in international prices. But tell me ONLY one thing - when in the past has any relief been passed on to the public when international prices have fallen? Would love to hear from you.
Good work done by Prime Minster. Thanks to PM.
On one hand, we have a constructive federal government doing constructive things – building infrastructure, issuing Eurobonds, increasing reserves, getting 3G license, getting GST plus status.
On the other hand , we have a petulant KPK government, zero performance, zero infrastructure, Taliban sympathisers, bringing miscreants to the streets, choking economic hubs of Pakistan .
This price reduction has nothing to do with PTI, PML-N, IK or Nawaz Sharif. This has everything to do with the falling price of oil in global markets. Give credit where credit is due. Don't fall for political propaganda.
Thank you Nawaz Sharif
Well done Nawaz Sharif..
Please Imran continue your protest, a true opposition, only because of you we are getting these incentives, People of Pakistan thank you so much for your stand against the status co and corrupt..
Too little too late Mr. PM
Shameless person. Asked about protests? Don't ask me about protests, are the protesting ones not Pakistanis? What projects? If you can't open 4 constituencies you already failed to deliver people demand in a democracy. Are you blind? Can't you see them? A government with 2/3 majority who can even make any law to open ballot boxes is hiding behind the law? Any sensible person will understand why. The priosrity at the moment is to open the boxes PM to get country temprature back to normal and claim your authority as a genuin PM. How far can you run?
what a big liars these theives are.. the reduction in power tariffs is directly linked to ease in crude oil prices internationally.. and they're associated it to improved economic indicators.. if anyone is interested to know how this Govt is performing.. please read State bank report issued earlier this week..
Bravo NS. My prayers for NS.
Thanks Mina Shaib. You are great.
There is no lack of resources. Just look into the Sharif Conglomerate's off shore accounts. bring the money back.
i feel rich ...again!
Thank you IK
Mr fresh hair cut haven't preformed a magic trick overnight to reduce power tariff rates, Actually oil prices reduced world wide few days ago and By the way he should also focus on paying off PSO dues, which are in billions.
Suddenly he's trying so desperately to be a nice guy. Thanks PTI
I did not vote for PMLn and i do not think Nawaz is as clever as IK but the way IK has behaved like an angry kid, Nawaz sounds a better option.
His pace might not be ideal but PK does not need any adventures. Let democracy move forward slowly.
Imran is trying to disturb the economy of Pakistan. On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif is trying to give relief to the public. It is quite clear that PTI will get more bitter defeat in 2018 elections.
Go Imran Go. Stay Nawaz Stay.
“I never gave a timeline, either before or after elections to end the power crisis,” he said.
Er..your brother said 6 months.
It is of course a vibrating politics and result of persistent pressure to show some relief to public
Allah bless Nawaz Sharif. he is the only hope for Pakistan.
Thank you......IMRAN KHAN.
