7 acquitted of embezzlement charges

An anti-corruption court on Thursday acquitted seven people accused of embezzling funds from the Lahore and Rawalpindi Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE).


They were accused of embezzling Rs250,000 during the period they worked on developing a computerised system for the boards.

An anti-corruption establishment in 2001 had registered a case against IT consultant Majid Naeem, Lahore BISE chairman Dr Akram Kashmiri, controller examination Ijaz Hussain Naqvi, acting BISE chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Tahir, Rawalpindi BISE controller examination Amjad Iqbal, system analyst Tariq Masood and programmer Wahidur Rehamn.

The defence counsel told the court that the prosecution had failed to produce any evidence against them.
