Violence in the city: Five people, including extortionists, shot dead

KARACHI:

Two suspected extortionists were among five people gunned down in the city on Thursday.


Tahir Hayat alias Baga, 27, and Yasir, 28, were shot dead in Orangi Town within the limits of the Pakistan Bazaar police station. Their bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police officials said that the deceased were suspected extortionists and had arrived to collect money from Chingchi rickshaw drivers in the area when around four unidentified men on two motorcycles shot them. A case has been registered and further investigation is being carried out.



Meanwhile, a supervisor of a private security company was killed near Zia Morr in SITE. Police officials said that the deceased was identified as Habibur Rehman, 40, and was standing at a bus stop when unidentified motorcyclists shot him dead. He was on his way to work. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.


Imtiaz Lashari, 30, was gunned down on Korangi Road within the limits of the Defence police station. The police said that the deceased used to work as a driver and was on his way to Defence Morr from Korangi Road in a car when unidentified men tried to intercept him. The men opened fire at him when he did not stop the car. The assailants managed to escape before the police reached the crime scene. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.


In Musharraf Colony, the body of an unidentified young man was found within the limits of the Mochko police station. Police officials said the deceased had been kidnapped before being shot once in the head. The body was moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification.
