All geared up: K-P home dept puts in place security plans for Chehlum

HANGU/ PESHAWAR:


The K-P Home and Tribal Affairs department has finalised its security plan for the province for the forthcoming Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain.


According to a notification issued on Wednesday, Home Secretary Akhtar Ali Shah has directed all deputy commissioners to impose Section 144 on December 12, 13 and 14 across the province. Moreover, Shah has also asked owners of arms factories and shops to keep their businesses shut as a precaution.



The notification said the entire province has been divided into 26 zones under the security plan. It added that helicopters will carry out aerial surveillance in eight districts which have been deemed particularly sensitive.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, an official of the home department said vehicles with tinted glasses, motorcycle riding and carrying weapons has been banned throughout the province.

The use of loudspeakers to spread hate speech and encourage sectarianism has also been prohibited. Furthermore, Afghan refugees have been requested to remain in their camps for three days.

Police have been asked to establish checkpoints along the entrances to the main cities from Fata to keep a check on the people entering the settled districts. They have also been asked to take action against those who violate Section 144.

Hangu

The district administration of Hangu has chalked out a comprehensive plan to provide foolproof security for Chehlum.

A high-level meeting chaired by Hangu Deputy Commissioner Naeem Sadozai was held on Wednesday to review the security situation in the district. It was attended by various district administration and security officials.

During the meeting, it was decided that Section 144 will be imposed across the district. As a result, pillion-riding, wall-chalking and public gatherings of over three people will be banned.

Moreover, transportation of petroleum products in polythene bags, display of weapons and excessive use of loudspeakers will also be prohibited.

The holidays of all government departments would be cancelled and action would be taken against officials who perform their duties in a negligent manner.

Furthermore, all arms licenses will be cancelled during Chehlum in the district and the entrance of Afghan citizens to the city will also be banned.

The district administration officials vowed to take action against those who violate the law.
