Motive unknown: Three bodies found on the city’s outskirts

East Cantt police foils weapons smuggling bid

PESHAWAR: Three bodies were found from Urmar and Chamkani areas, on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Monday.

According to the police, two men were found dead in a field in Shahzada Garhi. One of them was identified as 27-year-old Yousaf, a resident of Urmar Myana village, while the other’s identity could not be ascertained. He was, however, speculated to be around 18 years old. Police said both men had been shot dead by unidentified people and their bodies were later dumped in the field.

Similarly, another man was found dead in Inzer Garhi area. According to Chamkani police, the deceased was around 18 years of age and had been strangled to death. His identity had not been ascertained till this report was filed.

“Once he is identified, it will be easier to investigate further,” said an official of the Chamkani police station.

Meanwhile, a bid to smuggle arms and ammunition from Fata to Punjab was foiled by East Cantonment police.

Upon receiving an intelligence report, the police waved for a car to stop at a checkpoint, however, the driver sped away. Police chased the vehicle, but the driver abandoned it and escaped.

Around 5,000 cartridges of bore-13 TT pistols, an MP-5 rifle, two 44-bore rifles and 75 magazines were found in the car. A case was filed against the unidentified smuggler.
