Over 400 suspected militants surrendered during Operation Khyber-I

Army chief expressed satisfaction on the progress of operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-1

PESHAWAR: Director General Inter Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Asim Bajwa on Saturday said that over 400 suspected militants have surrendered during the ongoing Operation Khyber-I.

During Army Chief General Raheel Sharifs' visit to the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Saturday, he reviewed the progress of ongoing military Operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-I, and was briefed on the next phases of the operations.

Targeted strikes in Data Khel and deployment of locally developed technology against militants was also reviewed.

He expressed satisfaction on the progress of the two operations and the achievements made so far.

General Sharif further appreciated the commitment of troops in sustaining the operations, and lauded the sacrifices rendered by then in the operations.

Return of IDPs

The Army Chief was also briefed on the return strategy for temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan Agency, including rehabilitation of the affected areas.

The army chief said the early return of TDPs is the top priority, and directed all those concerned to begin preparations for the return phase.

Earlier, on arrival at the Corps Headquarters, the army chief was received by Lieutenant General Hidayatur Rehman, Commander 11 Corps Peshawar.
