Dar seeks World Bank support for energy sector development, Diamer-Bhasha Dam

Finance minister vows to continue reforms in energy and financial sectors

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has urged the World Bank to support Pakistan in energy sector development and construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.       



Dar addressed a meeting led by World Bank (WB) Director Satu Kristina Kahkonon in Islamabad.

The minister appreciated the bank for approving financing of CASA-1000 and Dasu Hydro Power Projects, which are expected to help reduce electricity shortages and play a vital role in economic growth of the country.

Dar also expressed commitment to introduce reforms in the areas of energy, taxation, revenue mobilization, private and financial sector development.

The visiting delegation of WB felicitated the minister and his whole economic team on the successful 4th-5th review with the IMF and launch of Sukuk, Islamic Bonds, bringing strength to the national economy.

Meanwhile, addressing an event held to mark World Competition Day in Islamabad on Friday, the finance minister said that cooperation between nation states is highly essential for the survival of any of the countries.

Ishaq Dar added that the aim of government's economic policies is to generate economic growth and to ultimately enhance consumer welfare.
