LAHORE:

Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed on Friday urged Muslim states to form a politico-economic union.

He was delivering the Friday sermon at the JuD’s two-day conference at Minto Park. Saeed said Muslim countries should have a common currency, army and a supranational court of peace. He said they should also ink mutual defence pacts with each other. Saeed said Muslim states should form a union along the lines of the European Union. He said India and Israel had been conspiring against Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme.

Saeed said movements like the Islamic State should devote their energy to fighting the Zionist state instead of focusing on Syria and Iraq. He said murdering fellow Muslims after branding them apostates was a grave error. Saeed said if India could send army officials to Afghanistan then the JuD too had the right to send mujahideen to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should try to resolve the dispute according to the resolutions of the United Nations (UN). Saeed said it was binding on the government to assist the people of the territory if the dispute was not resolved.

He said the United States of America (USA) had waged a war on terrorism but had ignored the plight of Muslims in Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Assam and Andhra Pradesh. Saeed said jihad was being construed as terrorism and international conspiracies were being hatched in the name of eradicating terror.

He said the allied forces had attacked Afghanistan on the pretext of the September 11 attacks but the Taliban had inflicted a crushing defeat on them after 13 years of hostilities.  Saeed said efforts were being made to replace the allied forces with Indian troops. He said even Indian assistance would not save the United States from being defeated.

Saeed said revolutions were not brought about by politicians taking to the streets as only religious people could foster revolutionary change. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wanted to rig the state elections in J&K and further the notion internationally that the state was not a disputed territory. Saeed welcomed the prime minister’s decision to raise the issue at the UN.

He said India and Israel had reached a secret understanding to destabilise Pakistan. Saeed urged the government to put an end to the interest-based financial system in the country and implement the Sharia. He said the Quran and the Sunnah should be officially recognised as the supreme sources of law and the judiciary and the bureaucracy should be reformed according to them. Saeed said only faith could unite the Muslims of the world.

The JuD chief said there was nothing in common between the Hindus and the Muslims. He said the nation had to avenge the separation of East Pakistan. Saeed the JuD had never resorted to politically motivated violence. He said he would establish a council soon to revitalise the ideology of Pakistan. Saeed said the organisation had been trying to transform Pakistan into a model Islamic state on the pattern of Medina.
