A Chinese food carnival was organised at Shakarparian by the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa in collaboration with the Chinese Cuisine Association, Beijing.

The twenty top chefs of China, hailing from different regions of the country, participated in carnival and demonstrated their skills, leaving audiences spell-bound with their culinary proficiency and sumptuous dishes, stated a press release.

The Chinese delegation is visiting Pakistan as part of bilateral ties between the two countries, where, besides promoting their cuisine among the Pakistani audience, they will also promote economic activity and introduce Pakistani dishes back in China.

Shahera Shahid, executive director Lok Virsa, while welcoming the cuisine association and other guests, said Pakistan and China enjoy cordial relations based on historical cultural ties. She said many common crafts of the two countries have been documented and preserved at the heritage museum of Lok Virsa.

She highlighted the high number of Chinese restaurants across Pakistan, saying this speaks of how popular Chinese food is amongst Pakistanis.

She thanked the Chinese organisers of the event and expressed hope that such ventures will open new avenues of cooperation between the people of the two countries.

Officials of the Chinese Cuisine Association and Pakistan’s embassy in Beijing also discussed the history, variety, techniques and healthy ingredients of Chinese food. The carnival was attended by diplomats, senior government officials, media persons and the general public and all were in awe of culinary skills of the Chinese chefs.
