The Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) on Thursday threatened to close all government hospitals if authorities fail to meet their demands within a week.
Leading a protest outside Peshawar Press Club, Dr Ameer Taj Khan said doctors have already gone on a token strike at hospitals and have presented three ‘genuine demands’ to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government.
Their first demand was an increase in salaries of trainee medical and house officers. The second is the provision of accommodation facilities to junior doctors and the third to resolve problems of the Peshawar Postgraduate Medical Institute.
He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government had thus far failed to resolve their problems.
Dr Khan threatened to close three main hospitals within a week if the demands were not met.
He added the doctors would proceed to close all other government hospitals in the province during the second phase and protest outside the Chief Minister’s House.
