New training regime introduced to enhance firing efficiency: army chief

Army chief says a number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced

Army chief General Raheel Sharif said on Tuesday that a new training regime has been introduced in the army to enhance the firing efficiency of individuals and units.

General Raheel was attending the concluding ceremony of Pakistan Army Annual Firing Competition at Army Firing Range near Jhelum, according to an Inter Services Public Realtions statement on Wednesday.

A number of new and innovative steps have been taken to enhance firing efficiency, including the establishment of an army marksmanship unit, which is a quantum leap towards improving firing standards of soldiers of the Pakistan Army.

“Yet another step is the conduct of firing competitions within the army on new format using latest techniques in consonance with constantly changing combat environment,” the statement added.

Further, a number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced.

Appreciating the standard of marksmanship of participating firers from all over the army, the army chief said that training is a vital part of every soldier's professional development.

“Highest standards of training and professionalism must remain our hallmark to accomplish the assigned mission,” the army chief emphasised.

He also awarded trophies and medals to the winning team and individual firers. Naib Subedar Sanaullah and Havildar Amir Nawaz secured first positions in rifle G-3 and light machine gun matches respectively. 2 Corps Multan claimed the overall trophy for the Year 2014.
