PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) student wing Muslim Students Federation (MSF) has demanded the arrest of members of the Awami National Party’s (ANP) student wing for allegedly beating up one of its members.

MSF members protested outside Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday and chanted slogans against members of the ANP-backed Pukhtun Students Federation (PkSF).

MSF district president Musawir Shah Afridi told journalists that Bilal, the wing’s senior district vice president, was beaten up while he was on his way to college. According to Afridi, PkSF members were chanting slogans of ‘Go Nawaz Go’ near Government College, Peshawar. “Bilal had requested them to stop shouting slogans against the PML-N leadership,” Afridi said.

However, the PkSF members continued to chant slogans, he added. A scuffle subsequently broke out between PkSF members and Bilal.

According to the district president, PkSF members allegedly opened fired at Bilal. The wing’s vice president was critically wounded in the attack and was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment.

Afridi demanded immediate action be taken against the PkSF members who attacked Bilal. “If they are not arrested, we will begin a series of protests across the province,” he said.

During the protest, MSF members shouted slogans against PkSF and criticised the organisation for allowing its members to carry weapons at educational institutes.
