KARACHI:

The chief of the Awami National Party -Wali group, Begum Nasim Wali Khan, met lawyers at the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on Saturday. The senior politician, who hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, spoke about the need to bring back peace and harmony to the country.

"If we jointly raise the flag of peace, it will surely root out terrorism from the country," she told the gathering of lawyers. "I am old but my spirits are high. And until my spirits are high, I will continue with my mission," she hoped. The meeting was part of her nation-wide tour to gain support for her peace struggle.

Begum Wali recalled that Bacha Khan's had always denounced violence and promoted peace in society, which cannot survive without it. Khan said she had come out to spread this philosophy, as the country had seen enough bloodshed and violence was rampant in every part of Pakistan, from Khyber to Karachi. Begum Wali urged the legal fraternity to come forward and play its due role in the mission to establish durable peace in the country, where people were divided in the name of cast and creed.

Begum Wali remarked that the cancer of corruption was unfortunately spreading across the country and asked the lawyers to help society fight against it.

She was of the view that the Constitution of Pakistan was passed and enforced with the consent of all the parties, but several amendments had been made to it to give safe passage to the rulers. "It is us who have to bring about a change in society. No one else will do this for us," she said.
