RAWALPINDI:

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) on Thursday severed electricity connections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member Provincial Assembly Ijaz Khan Jazi for failing to pay his outstanding utility bills for the past two months.

PTI leaders including party chief Imran Khan stopped paying utility bills after Khan gave a civil disobedience call in August while addressing supporters during the sit-in in Islamabad.  Jazi had not paid bills for the last two months for his residence — Ababil House — and his secretariat.

An Iesco team raided Jazi’s house and secretariat and disconnected the meters, said a company official. The Iesco officials said they disconnected the connections after the MPA failed to respond to overdue payment notices.

Iesco Spokesperson Fiaz Hussain Saddiqi said that the connection was severed after the customer ignored the warning notices. He said that Iesco has also disconnected electricity to Imran Khan’s house in Bani Gala for non-payment of utility bills.

He said that all other leaders of the PTI in Islamabad were paying bills regularly. “The connections of anyone who will not pay their bills will be disconnected,” he said.

According to Jazi’s spokesperson, the dues for his secretariat are Rs27,662, and Rs50,000 for his house.
