Three 'militants' killed in encounter with CID

KARACHI: Three suspected militants were killed during an alleged encounter with the Crime Investigation Department police while the Rangers and police arrested 10 suspects during raids in parts of the city on Wednesday.

Personnel of the CID's Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) conducted a raid on a tip-off about a militant hideout at Ghazi Goth, Manghopir, early on Wednesday. AEC in-charge DSP Ali Raza said that they had received information about the presence of militants belonging to the Swat chapter of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, who were allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist activity in the city.

The militants opened fire at the police during the raid and the police fired back in retaliation, killing three militants while their accomplices managed to escape, he said. The CID police also claim to have confiscated weapons, including a submachine gun and pistols from the militants' possession. The bodies were moved to the Edhi morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities were completed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Three suspected criminals, including extortionists, were arrested during targeted raids conducted by the Rangers in North Karachi, Lines Area and Timber Market. A Rangers spokesperson said that weapons were seized from their possession and they were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

In targeted raids conducted by the Rangers in Mandra Muhalla and Macchar Colony, six suspected Lyari gang members were arrested.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell police claimed to have arrested a suspect, identified as Naqeebullah, during a raid on Hub River Road. They recovered narcotics and a Mehran car stolen from PIB Colony from him.
