26 girls held hostage to settle loan dispute recovered in Karachi
The girls, who only spoke Pashto, were residents of Bajaur and recovered from a house in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi. The provincial government has taken them into custody and will hand them over to their respective guardians after conducting investigations, Express News reported on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the parents of the young girls had agreed to send their children to Karachi in a bid to provide better education for them.
Provincial minister for social welfare, women development and special education, Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani confirmed that the government is willing to bear the expenditures of these girls.
The house-owner had allegedly taken a loan from the madrassa teacher and gave them to the madrassa upon failing to repay the money. According to initial reports, the girls had not been properly fed for the past two days.
After the news broke, Muttahida Quami Movement lawmaker Rauf Siddiqui arrived at the house and met the girls. Earlier, MQM MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan said his party would take care of the girls until they are handed over to their guardians.
“We want the Sindh government to take notice of this action and bring those behind this act to book,” he demanded.
The lawmaker also said MQM had contacted the girls' tribal elders, who would be arriving in Karachi soon.
Expressing fears of what could possibly happen to these girls if they were not rescued, Hassan said the government should take immediate actions against unregistered and illegal madrassas in the city.

@Chachoo: you pretend to be educated and are also pretending to be rational. Then don't you know the tribal territory is not part of KPK? Or does it help you to prove your distorted argument right? Whatever your purpose the tribal territories are governed by the federal govt not KPK govt. They are for this reason called Federally administered tribal territories! How can they not know how these children are brought at such an age so far off from their parents? Secondly the Sindh govt which is the govt of the waderas by the waderas for the waderas will have to take the blame for extremely poor rather pathetic governance of the province! If such criminal elements are present in Sindh it is their responsibility to nab them! Don't try to shift the responsibility by pointing fingers at others!

Some pious powerful Muslims bought these girls cheap to resell them to rich Muslims to make good profit.

Is it possible that these girls were sold by the parents/guardians and not necessarily sent to Karachi for better life? I would like to know who owns and runs these madrassas and to what end. These girls must not be released to the guardians who probably sold them in the first place. They should be made a ward of the State (which I know would never happen in Pakistan) and parents and the teachers thoroughly investigated.

@Lion King: How simple it is to blame Wadairas. All i want to say many people are coming to Karachi while in their mind the thinking is to conquer this region rather than to integrate. Sorry to say but many Pushtoons families have the problem of integration when they reach Karachi or Punjab. Then they resort to making Ghettos in Karachi and similarly in Pindi you can now see their ghettos as well. They have their stories of So called Racial Superiority over others and the culture of Adopted lands is disrespected and looked down upon in Pushtoon familes. For your information None of the above girls even speak Urdu and they were brought from KP and Agencies. So simply blaming wadera system of Sindh will not work here. This mindset is being imported from North of Pakistan rather than being promoted by local parties. But i could not understand that PTI is bringing the revolution in KP but rather than sending their kids to KP from Agencies everyone is trying to reach other provinces that are not governed by PTI led government?. Tameer e School program of PTI seems to be a massive success.

Since when did madrassas become a bank ? And since when did madrassa owner (is there such a thing ?) have so much money that they enter into loan sharking ?
Taking 22 children as payment for a loan and these are the people imparting religious education in Pakistan ? No wonder we are in the state we are in.

Well whatever the fate of these girls, I appreciate the way this has been publicised . Let it be a lesson to people who think of indulging in such behaviour they cant go scot free.
