ATC sentences them for airing a blasphemous programme

An anti-terrorism court in Gilgit on Tuesday sentenced Jang/Geo Group’s Chief Executive Mir Shakilur Rehman, morning show host Shaista Lodhi, actor Veena Malik and her husband Asad Malik to 26 years in jail for a blasphemous programme aired on Geo Television.


Gilgit-Baltistan anti-terror court-1 judge Raja Shahbaz also imposed fines worth Rs1.3 million on them. The court further directed authorities to confiscate their properties and the passport of Rehman.

The court, in its 40-page verdict, found them guilty under sections 298-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), 419 of the PPC, sections 11-W (2) and 7-G of the Anti-Terror Act 1997, whereby they were each sentenced to 26 years in jail and fined Rs1.3 million

If they fail to post the fines, the court directed that they will have to undergo six additional months of imprisonment.

The court, while issuing arrest warrants, further directed police officials of Islamabad, Punjab and Sindh to arrest the convicted-proclaimed offenders and commit them to judicial lock-up at the district jail in Gilgit.
