The deaths took place due to insufficient medical facilities, a lack of oxygen and lack of incubators.
After going through different press clippings on the same issue, the chief justice ordered secretary health and the Punjab government to submit a report within a period of 48 hours.
On November 22, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had ordered the police to look into the matter after taking notice of the tragedy. It has been reported that 26 children died in just six days.
A three-member investigation committee had earlier sent the Punjab chief minister a report on the issue. Parents of the deceased children and those in critical condition accused authorities of not doing enough to address the issue.

Lets not jump to conclusions. I think any investigation should be given due time to reach a conclusion, after which the culprits can be held accountable. As someone working in the health sector, I would like to mention that the CM does not personally come down to supply oxygen tanks to neonates, neither can he be held directly accountable. Theres a process and chain of hierarchy which warrants thorough investigation of this matter. Jumping to conclusions without thorough investigations creates undue panic and is cheap sensationalism. An example is yesterdays "suspected Ebola patient" who made all the headlines.
Current govt thinks giving air conditioned buss to people is more important than giving medical treatment to poor people...its all about priorities.....
Waiving a stick in the air.....isn't going to do what needs to be done.
Are they not human beings, if stern action taken immediately might have saved some lives
Now please take suo moto on current political crisis and form a commission to probe fraud in Election 2013.
"SC takes notice", that is all what is done. Action is needed!!!!!!!!!!! Immediately!!!!! Now!!!! !
Dear PM & Respected CM, why do you people have to take notice when more than 2 dozen children or people give their lives due to lack of improper governance. What about children loosing their lives in Baluchistan, when will you take serious notice for that? You people are not only answerable to your country people but also to Allah Almighty. Don't fear your country, people but to the One who created you and you have to give answers to him.
Thanks God our court has given some attention towards this issue. Secondly poor nation think that machine is more expensive than metro bus project as government of Punjab has no money to save these poor children.
How come SC has not taken any notice on the death of hundreds of children in Tharparkar?
Oh I didn't know we have a Chief Justice in Pakistan who can take suo moto notices! I think with such self serving attitude, they can retire in peace but their conscience will always be scarred with the cries of these children. Where is PML-N government or the media who will waste no time to launch their attacks had it happened in KPK? Why this in difference to the death of 23 children. If it had happened in any "Democractic" or "civilized" country, the team responsible including the CM would have resigned. However, we have some very thick skinned politicians in place in the form of status quo parties.
