Blasphemy accused Asia Bibi has challenged her death penalty in Supreme Court Lahore Registry on Monday. The appeal states that the trial court while hearing the blasphemy case awarded death penalty in absence of sufficient proof, evidence and eyewitnesses. Asia Bibi appealed to the apex court to declare her sentences as void and set her free. The Lahore High Court has already rejected her appeal against the capital punishment, while the Supreme Court’s two-member bench has upheld the trial court’s ruling. She was condemned to death for committing blasphemy four years ago by a court in Nankana Sahab. She had allegedly given blasphemous statements during a verbal spat with a woman.
