Verdict: Man sentenced to 10 years in jail

A FIR was registered against the two suspects under Sections 324, 394 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code

KARACHI: A district court on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for looting and attempting to murder a taxi driver near Tariq Road in 2009. District and sessions judge Syed Shakeel Hyder also ordered the accused, Ashiq Ali, to pay a fine of Rs50,000 or face a year's additional imprisonment. According to the police, Ali and his accomplice had looted taxi driver Yusuf near Tariq Road after hiring his taxi in Shafiq Mor, New Karachi, on October 9, 2009. Ali was arrested by a police team on routine patrol in the area after Yusuf informed them of the robbery, while his accomplice managed to escape. A FIR was registered against the two suspects at Ferozabad police station under Sections 324, 394 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
