Egging plot foiled before hatching

Gujranwala district administration claimed on Sunday foiling a plan to throw rotten tomatoes, eggs and shoes on PTI chief Imran Khan, BBC reported quoting local officials.

“Four persons belonging to PML-N have been detained in the egging plot,” an official said. The administration acted promptly on information that a few people had gathered at Nowshera Road in the city centre with a sizeable quantity of rotten tomatoes, eggs and old shoes which were likely to be thrown at Imran Khan and other leaders of PTI during the gathering at Jinnah Stadium.

The district administration said that police reached the spot and arrested four persons along with thousands of eggs and tomatoes. Besides, a huge cache of old shoes was also seized in the raid. Following the arrests, the PML-N workers staged a protest demonstration and blocked Nowshera Road and other main thoroughfares of the city for a short period of time.

A PTI statement condemned the incident and said that the government will be responsible for any untoward incident in the rally. Meanwhile, a local journalist told BBC that there was a distance of 100 feet between the seats for the public and the PTI stage. It would have been impossible to hit the people on the stage with eggs and tomatoes from such a distance, he said.
