KARACHI: Favourites Habib Bank were in for a shock as they were dismissed for only 128 runs on the opening day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver quarter-final against Hyderabad at the Mirpur Stadium.

The top team in Group-II found Mir Ali Talpur and Naeemur Rehman too hot to handle as the duo picked up eight wickets between them. Rameez Aziz’s 49 was the only resistance faced by the rampaging Hyderabad bowlers. The underdogs capped a splendid day in the field by adding 95-2 at close of play, just 33 runs behind.

The Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot also witnessed an action-packed day as 17 wickets tumbled on the opening day of the tie between the hosts and PIA.

Batting first, Bahawalpur were dismissed for 137 as Moinuddin top scored with 49. Kamran Sajid and Najaf Shah ran through their opponents with seven wickets among them. However PIA’s joy was short-lived as Ansar Javed’s four wickets reduced their star-studded batting line-up to 92-7 by stumps. Javed claimed four wickets to bring his team back into the match.

Things were equally difficult for the batsmen at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium in the tie between KRL and State Bank. Batting first, KRL were sent packing for 176 as Nauman Ali 46 enough to make him the highest run getter. Rizwan Haider and Zafar Gohar took four wickets apiece.

In reply, State Bank stuttered to 35-4 by stumps day as Sana Kaleem took three of the four

SSGC fared relatively better with the bat on the opening day of their match against PTV. Half-centuries by Usman Tariq, Mohammad Waqas and Tariq Haroon took their team to a score of 266 all out. Waqar Ahmed snapped five wickets while Usman Ashraf took three. By the close of play PTV were 14-1.
