
NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry presided over the EBM meeting that approved filing of two references, according to a NAB statement.
First on is against Mirza Sanaullah Baig, ex-senior vice president National Investment Trust (NIT) and the second is against Tariq Awan, ex-secretary Workers Welfare Board, K-P and others.
In the first reference the accused persons fraudulently cashed Rs16.18 million worth of NIT certificates causing a loss of equivalent amount to the trust.
In the second reference, the accused violated procedures for processing cases of scholarships and misused their authority. The national exchequer suffered a loss of Rs44.72 million due to their illegal acts of granting Workers Welfare Board scholarships to ineligible and ghost students.
The EBM, authorising three investigations, directed opening the first one against PTDC ex-MD Mir Shahjahan Khetran and others for approving illegal appointment of 426 persons in the corporation. Second investigation was authorised against Fateh Textile Mills Hyderabad for allegedly processing fake export bills worth Rs490 million.
Third investigation was approved against ex-minister Nawabzada Mehmood Zeb and officials of Directorate General of Mines and Mineral and officials of Administration Department K-P regarding misuse of authority in grant of prospecting licence of phosphate mines causing loss of Rs122.9 million to the national exchequer.
The board also approved carrying out four inquiries. Top of the list was the case of contractor Muhammad Afzal Bhatti and general manager NHA for a give-and-take of Rs5 million to secure contracts. Second inquiry was authorised against Dr Rehan Abdul Hafiz, National Programme Manager Expanded Programme of Immunisation for import of substandard vaccines and syringes.
Third inquiry was authorised against Dr Zahid Pervez, Ex MS Mayo Hospital and other accused persons for misappropriation of hospital funds. Fourth inquiry was authorised against Dr Ziaur Rehman Ex-Chief Executive, Ayub Medical Institute Abbottabad for embezzlement. The Executive Board also approved the application of voluntary return of Rs3.5 million by Rustam Zad Gul, ex-chief engineer PESCO.
The board also decided to close probe against Muhammad Ibrahim Tunio of National Bank Dadu branch and others for lack of evidence.
