Kalabagh dam: Haleem Adil Shaikh disagrees with own party

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid Sindh president Haleem Adil Shaikh rejected the opinion of his party on the Kalabagh Dam and protested in front of the central leadership.

He warned the party of resignation if a clear stance on the issue is not reached. On 16 November, Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi, the president of the party in Punjab, said in Islamabad that the project is for the future generations and everyone must play their role in its construction.

Following the statement, Shaikh reached Islamabad and met with the party's senior members and expressed his reservations on the dam. Talking to the media, Shaikh said that there was a long history of mistrust between Sindh and Punjab as well as Sindh and the federal governments.

According to Shaikh, he could give up being the president of the party for Sindh's sake. "There are many other options of making dams in the country," said Shaikh.
