KARACHI:

The attack on Sindhi-speaking officers working in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) became a major source of agitation in the proceedings of the Sindh Assembly when Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Nadir Magsi directly held the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) responsible for the issue.

Magsi delivered a fiery speech of ultimatums and warnings. "Please restrain your people from such action. "Our tolerance does not mean that we are weak and cannot react to it," he said. He added that some Sindhi employees working in the KWSB have come under attack by MQM workers. The latter have allegedly been threatening them for the last month to leave Karachi.  "Three officers have sustained severe injuries and some others have been given notices to leave Karachi."

The situation, however, grew tense when MQM's Faisal Subzwari rose to respond. "Stop blaming the MQM," he requested in a softer tone. "Our people face a similar situation in rural areas. Can we hold the PPP responsible for such incidents taking place in Larkana and other cities where the children of our party workers cannot even go to schools?"

Sharjeel Memon said that he had spoken to the Sindh IG and Rangers DG after the chief minister had taken notice of the issue. "I assure this House that the culprits responsible for the attacks will be behind the bars soon," he said.

On the other hand, some Sindhi-speaking employees of the KWSB protested in front of the assembly for the second consecutive day, demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the attack on their colleagues.
