Inam takes second bronze for Pakistan wrestling

KARACHI: Muhammad Inam clinched Pakistan’s second wrestling bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 80kg event at the 4th Asian Beach Games by defeating Syrian Arab Republic’s Maher Alkhayat 3-0 in Phuket, Thailand on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Inam defeated Tomoyuki Oka of Japan 3-0 in the first group match, Anucha Yospanya of Thailand 2-0 in the second and Van Hieu Ha of Vietnam 2-0 in the third to reach the semi-finals where he lost to Iran’s Jaber Sadeghzadeh 2-1. He then took on Alkhayat for the third-place playoff.

Meanwhile, Hazrat Hussain and Muhammad Shahid Pervaiz helped Pakistan’s handball team win their third group match in a row after defeating Bangladesh 2-0.

Both players scored 16 points each in Pakistan’s 21-5, 22-13 win. The team will now play against Thailand today in their fourth Group B match.

In volleyball, national champions Mubashir Raza and Muhammad Razzaq lost their third match 2-0 to Indonesia.
