Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Naeemuddin’s ton give SNGPL vital win over Peshawar

Unbeaten 113 run knock helps record four wickets win in Quaid trophy silver league

KARACHI: Spurred by an unbeaten 113-run knock by batsman left-hander Naeemuddin, SNGPL recorded a closely fought four-wicket win against the Peshawar Panthers in an important sixth round tie of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Gold) 2014-15.

The leading departmental team chased down the 223-run target for the loss of six wickets on the final day of their clash staged at Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Stadium. Imran Khalid played a stellar role in the win through his unbeaten 63-run knock after the SNGPL had lost six cheap wickets in their pursuit, the two added 132 runs in their unbroken alliance for the seventh wicket.

Karachi Dolphins enjoyed a fine day with the bat as their match against UBL ended in a tame draw on Saturday. Saad Ali 104 and Yasir Mushtaq 151 struck unbeaten centuries as the hosts ended their second innings at 376-3 after their team had gathered a 120-run lead in the first innings.

Port Qasim won a closely fought tie against Islamabad Leopards by 45 runs at the Diamond Ground. The hosts were bowled out for 279 (chasing 324 for a win) in their second innings on the final day as former Pakistan pacer Abdur Rauf registered a five-wicket haul.

Over at the Multan Cricket Stadium the match between the hosts and ZTBL ended in a draw. On the final day the visitors closed their second innings at 175-5 with Usman Liaqat scoring an unbeaten 78.

Rawalpindi Rams stunned the powerful Wapda outfit at home by a close margin of three wickets. The hosts chased down the 209-run target for the loss of seven wickets on the final day. Zahid Mansoor (86) and Usman Saeed (63*) were the chief contributors in the win.

Silver Edition

Four out of the five Silver league matches produced a result on the fourth and final day of action. Hyderabad Hawks recorded a thrilling 21-run win over Quetta Bears at the Niaz Stadium.  Aslam Sattar snapped a six-wicket haul on the final day as the visitors failed to overcome their 176-run target.

PIA bagged a four-wicket win over KRL at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. The visitors chased down the target of 204 runs on the final day, losing six wickets in the process. Shaharyar Ghani (36*) and Tahir Khan (35*) played vital roles with the bat in their team’s win.

SSGC defeated the star-studded HBL outfit by 26 runs after a closely fought match played at the National Ground in Islamabad. Half-centuries by Imran Farhat and Kamran Hussain went in vain on the final day as the Bankers fell for 302 in pursuit of the 328-run target. Adnan Ghouse claimed four wickets.

Faisalabad Wolves produced a stunning fourth innings batting performance on the final day to overhaul a steep 441-run target against their hosts Sialkot Stallions. Imran Ali top scored with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 182 to ensure the win for his team.

Bahawalpur Stags easily gathered first innings points as their game against the Abottabad Falcons ended in a draw at the Dring Stadium.

The Falcons ended their second innings at 238-8 on the final day after the hosts had posted a mammoth first innings score of 529, courtesy centuries by Imranullah, Faisal Mubashir and Imran Khilji.
