Detained North Waziristan IDPs released in Bannu

BANNU: After demands from the Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and a sit-in led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Marvi Memon in Bannu, police late on Saturday released the internally displace persons (TDPs) who had been detained at the Bannu jail, Radio Pakistan reported.

The minister had demanded the immediate release of the IDPs who had been detained following clashes during ration distribution on Friday. He said the gates of the jail should be opened for the IDPs, otherwise those responsible for aid distribution and management would be put behind bars.

Rashid, in a statement, had appreciated PML-N MNA Marvi Memon’s efforts and struggle for the oppressed IDPs.

“Instead of apologising for its inefficiency and poor arrangements of the distribution of relief goods, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government put the hapless people behind bars,” he regretted.

The information minister said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in K-P should give respect and protocol to Memon, for her noble cause.

“Instead of making excuses, the K-P government should make better arrangements for the distribution of relief goods,” Rashid said.

Marvi Memon stages sit-for detained IDPs

As the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) continues to be ignored, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) MNA Marvi Memon staged an eight hour long sit-in for the release of the arrested IDPs outside Bannu Jail, Express News reported on Saturday.

Blaming the provincial government for the mismanagement at the ration centre yesterday, Memon stressed that she will continue staging a sit-in for all of the arrested IDPs until they are released.

“The IDPs were assaulted when they approached police for the provision of tents,” the MNA added.

She also claimed that the federal government is taking measures to facilitate the IDPs.

On November 13, eight policemen and 11 internally IDPs were injured in a clash at a ration centre near Bannu Sports Complex, right before the arrival of  international donors of United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) in the district.

The IDPs started pelting the policemen with stones, leading to a brawl, while the security forces resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling to disperse the IDPs.

@Rambo: Forming a queue just is not in the Pakistani DNA also the stress of being away from one's home may also play a part in the fiasco, and it doesn't help with the high profile theatrics of this lady
