KARACHI:

Council of All Pakistan Textile Associations Chairperson Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, while praising the government for its decision to supply gas to textile units in the north, has said that the industry is in desperate need of gas to meet export orders.

“The need for completing the orders is extremely significant when we consider the GSP Plus status we have been granted by the European Union,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He suggested that the textile sector should not be on fourth place on the list of priorities for gas supply. The sector comes below domestic, commercial and fertiliser sectors.

“The textile industry alone can take Pakistan out of the debt trap, unemployment and add more value to our vital cash crop, cotton.”

Motiwala concluded that the lack of capacity expansion and failure to deliver on time was the biggest weakness because of unreliable infrastructure.
