Gulberg police claimed on Thursday to have shot dead a robber in a shootout at a graveyard.
City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune that police had received a phone call late on Wednesday night that three unidentified men riding a motorbike without number plates had snatched a motorbike from Bilal Shahid near ABC Bridge in Liaqat Town. He said Gulberg SHO Muhammad Siddique set up pickets around the area and stopped some men near Karnail Wala Bridge.
The CPO said the robbers shot at the police team and fled towards Kamalabad. He said police chased the robbers and surrounded them near the Kamalabad graveyard.
The CPO said they hid behind trees and shot at police. He said one of them was shot when police retaliated. He said his accomplices fled under the cover of darkness. The injured man was taken to a hospital where he died. The CPO said two motorbikes, a pistol and two magazines had been recovered from the scene. The body was sent to a mortuary for post mortem examination. The CPO said two teams had been directed to find and arrest the other robbers.
