Maryam, in a statement, explained that she was glad to have served the youth, adding that she worked on a volunteer and honourary basis.
"I feel extremely humbled for the opportunity to serve the youth of Pakistan via the programme," said Maryam.
She added that the program is now in great shape and on track for the next five years.
“I'm happy that there is good momentum behind these revolutionary initiatives that are now being emulated in various places internationally and are being appreciated by many millions, this is an honour for Pakistan.”
Maryam further said that she felt it was an appropriate moment to hand over the reigns of the programme to another equally dedicated individual.
“This programme is here to stay and will touch new heights in days, weeks and months ahead.”
She added that though she is resigning from the youth loan programme, she intends to continue her ‘voluntary service’ for Pakistan and its people.
“Nothing ever will deter me from serving my people and the cause of my land, with or without office, designation.”
Maryam said Pakistani women need to step up, work hard, compete and contribute to build a strong Pakistan.
"I support all women, who, against so many odds, are brave enough to come out and struggle hard," said Maryam.
Though I have tendered my resignation, I would still have my MA English Literature degree presented in the court on Fri so no doubt remains.

Maryam had been appointed as head of PM’s youth loan scheme on November 22, 2013.
The Lahore High Court had sought a reply from Maryam by November 5 while hearing a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zubair Niazi challenging her appointment. Her appointment had also been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.
The petitioner claimed that the appointment was a result of sheer nepotism.

The messages of PMLN trolls seem to honor Maryam Nawaz for her act of Honesty and Nobelness. I ask them the question that she resigned only after pressure from Court. If court did not pressurize then would she have left thee post? NEVER! PMLN is dynasty family limited company. if she had voluntarily resigned and asked apology for the wrong appointment, then I would have appreciated her act. Everyone know how she treated the Bakery owner when her order got delayed.
@Naz: Please don't be miss guided. Nawaz did it coz he was under pressure. Why do you think Nawaz placed her in the first place? Because of Nepotism. Now you wont know what is!
Resignation? More like, fired by the court. Why can't the same be done to N Sharif?
@Rumormonger: I love the sarcasm!
Sad news. The youth of the nation could have learnt from her unprecedented achievements. Like doing a Political Science PhD after a Masters degree in Literature. IK sadly does not have the benefit of youth as his priority.
A brave girl, who understand the need of time.
One should commend her for resigning. Has anyone resigned in Sindh after the corrupt horrific ways of the government at a time of drought/death of children, women from starvation? Even in the west at times it takes a lot to make politicians resign - take Spain as an example. We should be magnanimous, look at Maryam's record while she ran the organisation and see the achievements rather than judge blindly.
Aoa, madam what is this.
For those who asked for jail term for Meryam Nawaz for taking tax payers money should learn that she was working as volunteer and not drawing any salary.
Her prompt compliance of court's order must be appreciated; she did not try to beat about the bush, and showed class. As well, this court decision is a SLAP on the face of IK and the likes, who have been parroting day and night that the courts are influenced by NS, and will not issue fair judgments while NS is the PM.
Maryam Nawaz, PM Nawaz and other leaders in the Pakistan government should not be ashamed or bashful in publicly APOLOGIZING for their mistakes. They should set an example for others to follow. Pakistan will definitely progress.
In a true democracy no civil servant in a position of influence should be allowed to hire any family member, relatives or friends due to possible "Conflict of Interest" which is today responsible for multi tier corruption in every government office in Pakistan
@Shaharyar Shaikh:
Do you have eidence that she was involved in looting? She is being asked to leave because she is not qualified for the position not because she was looting.
@Javed Qamer: The issue was that she was ot qualified for the post. There was to allegation that there was any impropriety in disbursal of loans. So there is no reaso for her to be jailed.
Very definitely a very smart and wise move Maryam Nawaz. Your dad should not have place you in this position in the first place due to "CONFLICT of INTEREST". All such appointments should do same as you have done.
You did a good job MNS. Keep up the good work like ur dad.
It was on an honorary and volunteer basis to add momentum to the program . I don't see the big deal.
The bigger story today is that arrest warrants are out for miscreant in chief IK and Sheeda Butt for committing terrorism for attacking PTV and the Parliament of Pakistan
Oh how happy are the PTI trolls in their hate. PMLn is doing an awesome job for the youth from easy loans to taxi schemes, fees reimbursement and much more. Till a few months ago I was a supporter of PTI byt now I am supporting for PMLn. This is the change happening. This had nothing to do with IK. The court Imran Khan loves to bash did this.
Very good and excelent news, Nawaz respect your family and do better! Go Nawaz Go
No matter if she resigned. This is feudal party. They will place a dummy person and at the back hand she will keep running the program. They think Paki awam is dumb.
GO NAWAZ GO
@Pervaiz. If someone in Nawaz camp has to do RIGHT thing, it's Nawaz himself. As per you his daughter did the right thing then GO NAWAZ GO.
"she intends to continue her ‘voluntary service’ for Pakistan and its people" >> Maybe I wanna "volunteer" too as someone maybe equivalent to a federal minister, enjoying protocol , sitting in offices etc. C'mon. please! :P
Dharnas did not do this, court action did! Dharnas damaged Pakistan. If you want to throw out the system, you can't force others to follow it either.
Resignation is not enough. A case must be registered against the Prime minister as he misused his powers to appoint his daughter on the key post. Also someone should file a petition against Abid Sher Ali who is an MBA with no experience whatsoever in Power generation and he is holding the top Federal position based on personal connections.
Moreover Anoushey Rehman was the lawyer in the past and she is in family terms with Nawaz Sharif and has nothing to do Telecom and Technology but holding a key position as Minister of State of Information Technology and Telecommunication based on nepotism.
Last but not least , around all the women candidates on reserved seats are selected purely on nepotism and more than 50 percent belong from Gujranwala and Lahore division alone while the rest of Punjab is neglected in that regard as well.
One tiny step in the right direction. Daddy dearest, take note.
What a disgraceful father this lady has, who for no other reason but due to his father has been compelled to resign. If she wants public service then she should start from the bottom and not from the top. Democracies are not built on dynasties but dictators have tendencies to construct dynasties.
Rex Minor
Those who put her in that position should also resign.
I heard she has her sights on becoming Foreign Minister. May Allah have mercy on us!
GO NAWAZ GO!!!
The fact that someone in he Nawaz camp has done the RIGHT thing must be appreciated......what must be appreciated even more is that the court made its presence felt.
This position should be given to either a sikh or hindu...bring a change in Pakistan for once! they are all proud pakistani and love pakistan!
This is an example of how public pressure can work in a democracy to enhance accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in government. This is just the kind of course correction and precedent-setting that improves the system's integrity over time. I am afraid though that the Imran Khan types and their enthusiastic but misguided supporters will jump in glee and cite this kind of a development as the very reason democracy and democrats should be undermined.
How can she just resign. Dont you think she should go to jail. Taking the tax payers money for over one year and just resigning with no consequences.
Thank you IK and all the Dharna participants.
Thank you PIT, Thank you Imran Khan.
She is such a shameless person, why can't she simply accept that it was nepotism to appoint her on this post rather name it "voluntary resign".
The reality is that she wasn't qualified for this post but her daddy appointed her to this post because he thinks that Pakistan is his "jageer".
Thank you, Imran Khan!
Nice Going Maryam! After looting trying to come clean. Well done. Your dad might be proud of you. We Aint!
She should never have been given this position in the first place. Now she hastens to resign based on the LHC decision.
Nawaz should follow Daughter's example.
