Provincial parliamentary panel suggests govt formulate mineral policy for Sindh

Sindh assembly standing committee on mines and minerals wants govt to begin consultations with stakeholders

KARACHI: Sindh assembly’s standing committee on mines and minerals department on Wednesday recommended that the Sindh government formulate a mineral policy in the province.

This was suggested during a meeting chaired by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional MPA Imtiaz Shaikh in the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday.

Officials of coal, mines and mineral departments briefed the meeting about deposits in Thar and other districts.

After the meeting, Shaikh told the media that Sindh was rich in natural resources, but had no formal policy, yet.

“Government should begin consultations with various stakeholders and formulate the policy without any delay,” he said.
