On Tuesday, Chinese media outlet The Paper reported that Shanghai authorities have conducted "preliminary talks" with pop legend Taylor Swift's team to regarding the possibility of her perfoming in the city.
The report comes a month after Swift concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour with the final show in Vancouver, Canada. Figures indicate that 10.1 million people attended across 149 shows with the global economic impact amounting to a staggering $13-$28 billion. However, despite her popularity in China, the artist did not stop by to perform in the country during her tour.
That might change this year as Zhang Qi, deputy director of Shanghai's culture and tourism bureau, told thereported that they had met Swift's team in the city.
"As for whether it can take place in the end, we feel that it will have to depend on the market and the attractiveness of the city of Shanghai. But we are optimistic that they may be hope this year," he stated.
In October 2024, Swift's concert documentary Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour released globally, The film screened in China for 69 days, drawing over 2 million viewers and grossing 100 million yuan ($13.8 million) becoming the highest-grossing music documentary in Chinese box-office history.
Although there has been no confirmation or comment from Swift's team on this topic, Chinese fans remain hopeful.
