Flood victims to receive waiver on loans, bills

Government will waive off loans as well as gas and electricity bills for flood victims promises prime minister Gilani.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has announced that the government will waive off loans in the flood-hit areas.


Addressing a public gathering at District Dadu, Gilani said the relevant authorities have also been directed not to charge gas and electricity bills to flood victims. He added that Nadra has also been directed to speed up the distribution of Watan cards among the affectees.


Gilani said that Rs100,000 will be given to the flood affectees each for the reconstruction of their houses. He reiterated the government's resolve to fulfill all promises made to the public.


According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 1.7 million houses were destroyed or damaged by the floods, which started at the end of July in the north of the county before rolling south in an unprecedented wave of destruction.
