CSI Peshawar: Medical store owner shot dead

Police officials suspect motive behind murder was sectarian.

PESHAWAR: The owner of a medical store was gunned down by unidentified assailants on Friday night. According to a police report, 35-year-old Nasir Abbas, a resident of Gulbahar No4, was shot dead inside his store. The assailants fled after committing the crime.

The deceased was the son-in-law of Shia leader Khwaja Fayyaz who had served as vice chairman of the Muharram committee, said an official of Gulbahar police station.

“This is clearly an act of target killing triggered by sectarian motives,” he added. According to the official, an FIR has been registered and police are searching for the culprits. Further investigation into the matter is under way.

Bomb scare

The police found a suspicious-looking school bag from Bacha Khan Chowk. According to police sources, officials noticed an abandoned school bag at Bacha Khan Chowk and suspected it was a bomb. This raised panic and alarm in the area.

Traffic was diverted to other routes and one side of the road was completely closed down. The bomb disposal unit was called to inspect the bag and found no device inside.

Kidnapped

Shakilur Rehman was kidnapped by unidentified people from Karkhano market in Hayatabad.

According to the police, Rehman was a helper at a shop in Karkhano market. Two days ago, he was on his way home after the shop was closed for the day. However, Rehman never reached and his family began searching for him, a policeman added. The family later learnt he had been abducted.
