Improving output: WB supports workforce training

LCCI President pointed out that labour force in Pakistan was 60.34 million, of which Punjab’s share was 29.16 million

LAHORE:

The World Bank acknowledges and supports the Punjab government’s programmes for training of workforce to enhance productivity, said Scherezad J Monami Latif, the bank’s Senior Education Specialist, Human Development Unit for South Asian Region.

Talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Ijaz A Mumtaz on Friday, Latif said the private sector should be encouraged to take over management control of various public sector training schools to increase efficiency and ensure that required training is imparted.” She said World Bank would bring the business community and private sector institutes on one table.

LCCI President pointed out that total labour force in Pakistan was 60.34 million, of which Punjab’s share was 29.16 million. He said Punjab was facing the problem of low labour productivity, which could only be addressed by enhancing their skills.
