Leopards attacked livestock at a ranch in Kaghan Valley, killing two sheep on the spot and severely injuring eight others who eventually had to be slaughtered.
Noorur Rehman, a resident of Noori Bhooran village in Kewai union council, told the police he was asleep in a room adjacent to the ranch on Wednesday night when he woke up to the sound of bleating sheep.
Rehman said he went out and saw two leopards dragging away two sheep while eight others were seriously injured and bleeding from their necks. As a result, he had to slaughter the injured sheep.
Rehman estimated incurring a loss of hundreds of thousands of rupees. He added his relatives have lost several animals to leopards in the recent past, especially when the weather turns chilly as the big cats venture to villages in search of food.
